Middle School and High School Students in Carlsbad will compete for a $500 1st Place Scholarship,

Open to all local North County Students!

The Carlsbad Equality Coalition (CEC) will be hosting a speech competition for middle and high schoolers across the city. We are reaching out to ask you if you could help us spread the word to your students. We will be offering a $500 scholarship for the 1st place winner of the competition, and a $200 scholarship for the second place winner.

We believe this event will be an essential way for students to have their voices heard.

Here is more information about the competition: It will be held in two stages. The first will be an online submission via YouTube, in which students will need to send us a 3-5 minute recording of their speech. From there, we will choose 15-20 finalists by January 1st that will compete in person as finalists.

The finalist competition will be hosted in person in Carlsbad by the CEC’s President, Aly Vredenburgh, and Co Vice-President, Hannah Summerhill at 1pm, Saturday, January 22nd at Pilgrim Church

For the competition, we are asking students to write and recite a 3-5 minute speech answering this question: What does equality and justice mean to you?
